Cupping Therapy in Kansas City

At Lifestyle Massage, we have some of the best massage therapists in the Kansas City area who know the most effective techniques to treat injuries, soreness, and other ailments. One popular treatment that has been gaining momentum over the last few years in Kansas City is cupping therapy. If you are not familiar with cupping therapy, this quick rundown will provide some valuable information.

What Exactly is Cupping Therapy?

This form of treatment has been used for many years. In ancient times, cups would be placed on the individual’s body for a few minutes to create suction before the cups were eventually removed. Cupping therapy today is used in countless other areas to provide benefits like:

  • Reduced pain and inflammation

  • Better circulation and blood flow

  • Improved relaxation

  • Myofascial loosening

During a cupping session, the therapist will place cups on your back with the open end of the cup touching the skin. Next, using a special tool, air is sucked out of the cup, which creates a vacuum effect and causes skin redness and expanded blood vessels.

There are other forms of cupping therapy, like dynamic cupping and fire cupping!

Dynamic cupping  is where the therapist moves the cup around to loosen the fascia. There’s also static cupping therapy, where the therapist searches for the most restricted parts of your back and then leaves the cups on that specific area for around 10 to 15 minutes.

Fire cupping is an exhilarating but also relaxing experience. It works into your soft tissues, softens restricted fascia, and gives you similar results as a deep tissue massage without the pain. This is perfect for people who love the benefits of a deep tissue massage but their bodies may be too sensitive for the pressure that comes from deep tissue work.

Fire Cupping FAQs:

1. Will it burn? Nope! The flame is held above the body to heat the glass cup (5-6 in away). A towel is layer over your hair as an add layer of safety, too.

2. Is there a  difference between regular cupping? Nope! Both provide the same benefits to the body. The warmth of the fire cupping brings more relaxation to the muscle and overall body.
